Company Overview and Initial Steps
Andersen Log Homes Company are log home builders from Walker, Minnesota who started their company in 1989 with a construction yard in Monticello, Minnesota. The log home builders will walk you through the log house process with all of their expertise and years of experience. The log home building process starts with choosing a log house, cabin building or commercial structure and having a property to build on. This is when you will need to provide Andersen Log Homes with your full set of log house blueprints. It is at this time that you will also need to know which General Contractor you will use.
Bid Process and Preparation
Andersen Log homes will provide you with a bid for the log shell, and the general contractor will then submit bids to you for the full completion of the log house of your design. When you are satisfied with all of the costs that will be incurred in the cabin building process, they will submit contracts to you to hold your cabin building time spot. Approximately six months before building your log house shell, they will procure the logs for your log home, debarking them, and then let them air dry before they are used in the construction of your log home. While they are constructing your log shell in their log house building yard, this is the time to prepare your cabin building site with excavating, building the log house foundation, getting the septic and well in, and rough in the plumbing and the electrical needs for your log home.
Reassembly Process
When the log house shell is completed on your building site, they will then label and tag each log, then disassemble the logs back onto trailers. At this time log home owners are welcomed to join the log house builders on their building site when their log cabin building or log home is put back together. Once the crane and the first load of logs for the log house are in place at your building site, the first step in reassembling your log house is by having the gable ends moved off of the foundation. The first course of logs is then set on the log house foundation and squared up, followed by subsequent courses of logs. Fiberglass insulation is then carefully stapled between each of the log's lateral and corner-notched before they go back together on your building site.
Final Steps and Customization
Once all of the log walls, posts and loft floor joist systems are completely reassembled, the roof logs are then set into the gable ends. When the log shell is completely reassembled on your building site, the next step is to have the roof of your log house installed. Once the roof of your log house is completed, Andersen Log Homes will then come back out and meet with the home owner and the general contractor to mark out all of the door and window openings, the interior slot cuts for partition walls and any other cuts that are necessary for the carpenters to complete their work. Their crew then hand cuts all of the door and window openings and keyways, and other marked items that you need a cutout. They will also sand all log ends, and window opening to your specifications.
