Inspiration for Small House Living

This tiny house video might inspire you to consider small house living. Downsizing into a small house design is an option that is on many people's minds these days. And as is the case with any sort of lifestyle change there are things you learn along the way. Small house living is a good way to downsize the space you are currently living in, along with all the stuff that you own. Maybe you are retired and want a smaller house to live in, or you might plan to travel more often. A tiny house lifestyle might be something you will use as a vacation home, a place to get away. Whatever the reason for small house living there are many things you can do to make a tiny house space work for you, along with important lessons that can apply no matter the size of your home.

Maximizing Space in Tiny House Design

It's not how much space you have, but how you use and design the tiny house space. Although there is certainly something to be said about big open floor plans and wall spaces in home design, seeing how tiny house designs squeeze out of every inch of a tiny house is inspiring. It's a good reminder that you can live in a large-sized home design and still be riddled with clutter and disorganization or have room layouts that simply don't work. To mentally prepare for small house living, it's a good idea to focus on communication. Talk about what you need in terms of storage and make sure you are prepared before you make a move.

Techniques for Downsizing and Organizing

Downsizing to a smaller home will have you rethinking the amount of stuff you own. When downsizing to a smaller home there are several techniques you can try to start organizing your things. One option is to start getting rid of one item a day, this helps to make the transition to a smaller home easier, you might start by getting rid of small items such as a pen that no longer works or a bag you never use. Once you get into the swing of things, then you can tackle objects with sentimental value or ones that you'll need to sell or recycle. Another way to start decluttering your space is to use the Marie Kondo method. This involves going through your possessions by category. For example, you might tackle books first and then clothes. Start by piling up all your books on the floor, and go through them one by one. Once you've handled those, you can move on to another category.
