This is something that most people will agree with, and one of the most popular reasons for building a steel container home was its eco-friendly properties. There are approximately 17 million steel containers in the world, with only about six million of these in use. So that means approximately 11 million steel containers are still currently unused and could be converted into tiny house designs and unique small house plans for people. For each recycled steel container, they are reusing around 7,700 pounds worth of steel.

Environmental Benefits of Steel Containers

Another reason steel containers are so eco-friendly is that you will also be saving all of the traditional building materials to include bricks, mortar and wood which don't need to be used. And while you could argue that melting down the steel container and recasting the steel into something new is more environmentally friendly, you would be wrong. This is because recasting steel requires an incredible amount of energy and this isn't financially viable, that is why there are so many abandoned steel containers in the world. Another benefit of steel container tiny house designs is that they can be built off-site. These unique small house plans can be built off-site, then delivered to your building site ready to move into. Sometimes a plot of land isn't very suitable to build on, and there can be many reasons for this. One of the top reasons is that the piece of land may not have any electricity so you couldn't power up your saws or welders there. In this case, you can convert the steel container at a local workshop and then have it delivered when the steel container home is finished to your plot of land. This is especially common when people want to build off-grid steel container homes. Another great advantage of modifying your steel container at a local workshop is that you don't need to make your steel container water tight straight away.

Efficiency in Construction

If you were converting the steel container outside, you would want it water tight right away, so that no rain gets inside the steel container. However, converting the steel container inside means, that you don't need to worry about making the steel container watertight right away. Steel container tiny house designs are also fast to build.
