Unique Floor Plan and Artistic Design

This unique tiny house in North Portland has a great floor plan for small house living. The L shaped purple tiny home is owned privately and has one level with one bedroom and one bathroom, a separate kitchen and living room. The home's floor plan creates an "L" shape with one side holding the kitchen and the living room and the other holding the bedroom and bathroom. The home opens out onto a nice deck from multiple points throughout the home. From the outside, the home looks really interesting and artistic, painted a deep eggplant purple with wood accents. The walls and ceiling are finished with knotty pine wood which brings that element of coziness into the cabin. They also painted the walls white to allow the space to feel brighter and more spacious. The wood kitchen cabinets bring in some warmth and the open cabinets show off the dishes inside. They incorporated beautiful stainless-steel appliances in the kitchen including a full-sized stove with and oven and a dishwasher.

Incorporating Reclaimed Materials for Affordability

Then, they painted the bathroom bright orange to bring in some great color and there is also a lovely claw foot tub which would be perfect for soaking in. She used Reclaimed wood for the flooring which is always a nice touch and it keeps the project affordable too. If you're considering building your own tiny house or a guest house on your property, using Reclaimed materials is a great way to keep the project costs low if you're on a budget. You can find a lot of Reclaimed items on your local buy and sell forums online or through salvage yards or even auctions and garage sales. Many people will sell or give away old materials from home renovations which is a great way to recycle and reduce waste.

Navigating Tiny House Living Regulations

As for placing a tiny house on a piece of land to live in full-time, that is the trickier part of the project. Even if you own your own land, depending on what locality you live in, this might be a lot trickier than you expect. And, if you'd hoped a tiny house RV might be the loophole you were looking for, this isn't always the case either. With an RV, you'll want to park at places with all of the necessary hookups. RV parks are often geared towards those who live in them year round - which is fine if you want a place of permanent residency, but most people dreaming the tiny house RV dream prefer to be mobile. As far as state, provincial and national parks go, quite often there's a two-week time limit on how long you can stay. Before investing all of your savings in either a tiny house or a tiny home RV, be sure to do all of the pertinent research and create a game plan for yourself and your family.

Testing the Tiny House Lifestyle

If you've asked all of the important questions and conducted all of the research, and you are still convinced that a tiny home is your future, the next most practical step would be to try living in a tiny space for a prolonged test period. Go ahead with the downsizing, free yourself from all of the excess baggage or at least put it in storage, and actually try living in a small space for a year or so. Choose a small apartment, rent a tiny home, or live in a friend's RV. Save your money and pretend you're already living in your very own tiny home. If you concede after a few months that this lifestyle isn't for you, then no harm done. You can move back into a larger space and reclaim your belongings from storage. If you pass this final trial, however, then you're now best-equipped for making your tiny house dream come true.
