Sustainability and Environmental Impact

Sand Creek Post & Beam have a deep concern for both the environment and in the protection of the land. They want their barns to last for generations while at the same time ensuring that healthy forests and a clean environment are a part of their legacy. Wood is the traditional building material for barns, but it also grows naturally, using the energy from the sun, and is the only major building material that is reusable, renewable, and sustainable. Wood is a building material that outperforms other materials in terms of energy use, air pollution and greenhouse gases, and is also actively promoted by the USDA as a superior green building material. Also, the flexibility of wood as building materials makes it ideal for earthquake safety or high wind requirements.

Using Chemical-Free Wood

Building with chemical free wood. Their suppliers allow the wood for the barn kits to dry naturally and also use no toxic chemicals. Since their posts sit on top of the Eastern Red Cedar sill plates, there is no need for the posts to be treated. Their cedar sill plates are also naturally resistant to insects, mildew and mold without the use of toxic chemicals. Wood requires a lot less energy to produce, to transport, construct, and maintain over time, making their chemical-free wood the perfect building material.
