Rustic and Inspiring Interior in the Italian Alps

This rustic log cabin interior is as good as it gets.

The stunning four-bedroom apartment occupies the top two floors of a four-story chalet just outside of the resort town of Cortina d’Ampezzo in the Dolomite mountains. The rustic cabin building is 2,800-square-foot and was renovated in 2000. Several of the rustic wood beams used in the apartment were salvaged from a 17th-century barn, with the floors and wooden paneling lending to a traditional Alpine feel. The first floor of the apartment has an open living plan and dining area, part of which has a ceiling of double-height. The rustic apartment has a balcony with mountain views that wraps around the front and one side. There are several built-in window seats and shelves that offer areas for relaxing or for displaying books and art, and inset lighting bathe the rustic wood in soft light. This beautiful four-bedroom duplex apartment is priced at $5,600,000.

The cabin building has low dividers that create three areas to include two lounges, one with a wood-burning fireplace, and the other a traditional free-standing Tyrolean tile stove which is known as a kachelofen, along with a formal dining area off the kitchen.

The rustic theme of the duplex apartment continues into the kitchen, which has a breakfast nook and a gas range. Upstairs there are four bedrooms of different sizes that are tucked under the eaves, all with en-suite bathrooms. Two of the upstairs bedrooms have access to a small balcony. There is also a service apartment on the cabin building’s ground floor, with a kitchenette, a bathroom, and a bunk, and a room that can be used for ski storage. There is underground parking that is available just a few yards away from the chalet.

Cortina d’Ampezzo is a town that has about 7,000 year-round residents.

The town is located in a breathtaking area that is situated within a cirque of jagged peaks at an altitude of 4,000 feet. There are ski lifts from Cortina that give access to the Dolomites Superski area, which includes 12 separate resorts, 450 lifts and approximately 750 miles of linked trails. Cortina is about 100 miles from both Innsbruck and Venice, Austria, with the drive taking about two and a half hours from Innsbruck and just over two hours from Venice. There are also a variety of train and bus combinations available from both cities.

The Dolomites is a mountain range that is part of the Southern Alps and tucked into the northeastern corner of Italy on the Austrian border.

Since 2009 this beautiful area has been a Unesco World Heritage site and features some of the most beautiful mountain landscapes in the world, with sheer cliffs, vertical walls, and a high density of deep, narrow, and long valleys. The Dolomites have as many Germanic influences as Italian ones, if not more. Many residents of this area are bilingual, and some also speak a regional language known as Ladin.
