The Icehouse is a historic 19th-century property that derives its name from its original purpose. The cabin building was built to store blocks of ice in the Summer that had been cut in the Winter from the nearby ponds. The ice blocks were in the cool rooms of a nearby Great Camp.
The cabin building has been lovingly restored over the past few years and transformed into a spacious cabin building with a welcoming and warm atmosphere. Many of the original features have been conserved, and the contemporary additions were carefully planned. Most of the renovations and additions used reclaimed local wood and ecologically sourced building materials to create a comfortable and unique living space, the inside of the cabin has been decorated to combine old and new in harmonious ways. The cabin building offers guests the experience of simple cabin-living in the Adirondack wilderness in a comfortable style. The cabin building recently got a good air-conditioning unit for the hot Adirondack Summer nights.
Great care has gone into every little detail: from the hand-cut red hardwood flooring in parts of the building and the custom-made windows set into the original wood-paneled walls, to the sheepskin-rug on the Adirondack rocking chair by the antique fireplace, or the very high-quality bedding on the comfortable beds; from the professional-grade Jenn-air range cooker to the family-size stainless steel fridge in the kitchen - everything has its own aesthetic and functional purpose and contributes to the simple, intimate and warm atmosphere of the building.
The kitchen in the cabin is well equipped with a high-end coffee maker, a Nespresso milk foamer, kettle, toaster, waffle iron, ice cream maker, kitchen aid blender, excellent pots and pans and all the other necessities you need for cooking and baking. There is also a Weber barbecue grill right outside, and an open fire pit in the nearby field with wonderful views. There are a boutique dairy and artisan cheesemaker in town with a small well-stocked farm shop, little library, and post office.
