Leaving the Hustle Behind

For much Milena Regos life, she was hustling. She worked long hours as a marketing executive and an entrepreneur who was burning the candle at both ends for what seemed like the only way to be successful. This all changed when Regos and her husband took a trip to Baja California and fell in love with the land, lifestyle, and kitesurfing. While she was flying across the water at the end of a kite, Regos realized that she needed to change the life she was living. Now the Milena and her husband live part of the year in La Ventana, Baja California.

Building a New Life with Unhustle

Milena and her husband bought some land in the small town of La Ventana, and they started their own lifestyle business, known as Unhustle. Unhustle teaches entrepreneurs and professionals how to unplug, slow down, and invest in both their health and wellness. The couple now split their time between La Ventana and Lake Tahoe. In La Ventana, they live in a 27-foot long Airstream near the beach. This simpler way of life has also integrated into their business.

La Ventana/El Sargento, Baja California Sur is considered one of the top 10 places in the world to kitesurf, and the couple got hooked on the sport. The location also offers incredible mountain biking (with the top six of the top 10 trails in Mexico being there), snorkeling, fishing paddleboarding, yoga, and so many other things to do. They purchased land (two lots next to each other). They have an incredible 180-degree view of the ocean and mountain backdrop from their lot. Their land had a lot of native plants on it when they bought it but nothing else. They built a small palapa so they can house their Airstream under it for shade and eventually added some solar shades in front.

The Comforts of Airstream Living

The Airstream they live in while they are in La Ventana, Baja California is a 2002 Safari model. The Airstream has a master bedroom, full bathroom, stove, fridge, table for eating and working, and a couch which extends into a bed. Airstreams already have a ton of storage, and that is important when you live there for between four to five months of the year. The Airstream also has air conditioning and a heater too. They installed sun protective solar shades and added more shade outside to help make it more comfortable in the hot weather.

Embracing a Simple, Active Lifestyle

There are plenty of rewards to living this sort of small house living, some of them include living an active lifestyle, spending time outdoors, yoga, mountain biking, kiteboarding and hiking. Another benefit is spending evenings outside around the fireplace watching the stars and listening to the ocean and the mobula rays flapping on the water. Other benefits that the couple enjoy include walking barefoot and connecting with the earth and all the rhythms of nature. They enjoy going for walks on the beach, eating fresh and organic vegetables and fresh seafood and living a simple life and disconnecting from the television and the news.
