Minimal Impact Design

This eco building was designed to occupy the smallest possible surface so it would have as little impact as possible on the land and to show respect towards nature. The mountain cabin building stands between existing oak and copal trees and coexists with a rugged landscape. The cabin building was designed by LAMZ Arquitectura in 2018 and is located in the San Sebastián Teitipac, Mexico. The cabin building has a quirky eco-design, and it's been built using local stone which helps to give it a timeless and authentic look, by allowing it to seamlessly and naturally blend in with the landscape.

Cozy Interior Layout

The interior of this cabin building is welcoming and cozy like a mountain cabin building should be, with lots of wood and stone building materials used throughout. The 1,190 square foot industrial cabin building is organized into two volumes that are connected by a steel and glass hallway. One of the volumes of the cabin is a public space which houses the living room, the kitchen and dining area while the other volume is a private space that contains the bedrooms. There's a big difference between these two volume spaces in the sense that one of them feels very open and has a direct relationship to the natural environment and the views while the other volume has more of a cave-like appearance and is designed to prioritize privacy.

Industrial and Rustic Aesthetics

The cabin building has a strong industrial vibe that is mixed with an overall modern appearance and a few rustic elements. The cabin building was built using local stone and wood building materials, and that helps the cabin blend in and become a part of the natural landscape. The local stone and wood that are used in the cabin building are in combination with the weathering steel which helps to give the cabin building an industrial appearance. The interior is welcoming and cozy just like a mountain cabin building should be, with lots of wood and stone used throughout. The two volumes are delineated and occupy different parts of the site and are connected by this glass hallway. The private section of the cabin has a cave-like, very cozy feel although it has its unique way of interacting with the outdoors. The cabin buildings timeless appearance is given not only by the building materials used in its design but also by in the strong relationship it shares with the land.

Adaptation to Terrain

The cabin building is almost buried to the south and elevated to the north, a structure dictated by the existing terrain. The southern volume of the cabin doesn't have the best views, because they are buried into the ground and all, but it has a very comforting look. In contrast, the northern volume of the cabin building overlooks the surrounding landscape and takes full advantage of its elevation. The exterior of the cabin building is almost entirely covered in stone, and the interior draped in wood which creates a pleasant contrast. The combination of stone and glass is unusual, and that's one of the details which makes this cabin building special.
