In the small town of Lubiatowo in Northern Poland, you'll find six cabins known as Szumilas (Summer Houses) that make up a holiday retreat. Owners Magda and Chris sought a change of pace from city life. Inspired by their travels, especially their hostel experiences, and an appreciation of the great outdoors, they decided to invest their savings in building a series of vacation homes with nature at the forefront. The cabin owners reached out to Raca Architekci to make their dream a reality. The small, two-story cabin structures are designed with natural building materials that harmonize with their surroundings. The simple cabin structures are a modern play on the traditional cabin building with wood-clad exteriors and gabled roofs.
Contemporary Cabin Design
The gabled form of each tiny house is clad with larch wood and topped with a black metal roof and chimney. The cabins have window openings, recessed deeply in the facade, which add a contemporary twist to the traditional cabin building. The three superior cottages at Domki Szumilas are timber-framed and insulated with wood. the window joinery is made of energy-saving aluminum. An important, minimalistic detail of the cabin design is the windows that have hidden hinges and drainers.
Functional Outdoor Spaces
The design team has created an arcade next to the terrace windows which provides enclosure and ensures that the terrace can be used even on windy or rainy days. Hidden in the facade is an aluminum entrance door, while the terrace is fit with HS triple-track windows that after opening, smoothly transform the living room space into a 100-foot terrace. Lubiatowo is a tiny seaside village between Debki and Leba. This area is extremely calm, with beautiful wide beaches of powdery sand. The cabin is located in a pine forest full of heathers and mushrooms, with charming scents. It is here that the owners wanted to create a place where we would be able to receive their guests.
A Personal Touch to Hospitality
Krzysiek and Magda are the owners of this peaceful retreat. Magda, for as long as could be remembered spent every vacation in holiday centers run by her parents and grandmother. Guided tours, trips to the stock exchange for goods, and cheerful conversations with cooks and waitresses are what she did most of the summer as a child. The terms canteen, conservator, and clean bedding warehouse are familiar to Magda. Krzysiek was a geography student more in practice than in theory, with most time spent traveling. Sleeping on the Wall of China, hitchhiking in Asia, great adventures for a few dollars a day.
Sharing Unique Experiences
Based on the amazing experiences, Krzysiek created and ran a hostel for many years, where tourists were hosted from all over the world. Activities such as kitesurfing, diving, snowboarding, and skiing are Krzysieks passions. By joining their forces, they offer you a place where they put their whole hearts. You will find cozy and elegant cabin interiors, a friendly atmosphere, and lush nature right on your doorstep. That is what the owners love the most and what they want to share with you.
