Perfectly perched on a cliff above the gorgeous Coast of Big Sur, the spectacular Fall House fits into the stunning beauty of its surroundings.
The design had to be based on strategy though so that the home would be incorporated into the land instead of just simply built on the land. The home also emulates the designs of homes built in the area in the 1950s and 1960s with a bit of a modern twist helping to incorporate the home into its surroundings once again, without losing its personal style. The majority of the home is located at the top of the property, and the entrance is found there as well. Shop Tiny Homes Upon entering the home, the living area unfolds as the home gets closer to the water view. The main communal areas of the home are located near the front entrance while the private areas are located further away to create some distance. As with many modern homes, the living room, kitchen and dining area are set in an open environment with a few different levels to separate them a bit. The walls are practically all made out of glass with so many windows that share the incredible ocean view. From the dining area, there is a door that accesses the patio area which has a glass guard rail to capture these views even more.
The living area also opens up to a terrace, but this one is a bit more private with trees surrounding it and a level concrete pad as the foundation.
Another seating area also includes a modern fireplace with a mantle and seating for more cozy interactions. They also included a built-in shelving unit that encircles the fireplace providing lots of storage and display space for books and art. The lower area of the home is where the master bedroom is, and it's just as extensive as the rest of the home with wide open windows and an open floor plan with the bed in the centre. The lower area of the home is achieved by creating a double cantilever over the bluff, but it still has amazing views just like the upper areas of the home. It's the glass library area of the home that unites the bedroom area and the living area nicely while still providing some great privacy. It's wonderful to see a design that makes great use of varying levels and incorporates windows without the entire home becoming one giant window. In total, the home features 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms making it perfect for a family. The entire home is 3,800 square feet and is built on a cliff that is 250 feet above the water.
Built in 2014, this sustainably-built vacation home was designed by Fougeron Architecture, an architecture firm based in San Francisco.
The firm used a bunch of different sustainable ideas to minimize the home's impact as well as its energy use. The windows allow in a lot of natural light and heat, and they made sure to provide lots of shading with the existing trees on the south side of the home to regulate the amount of heat from the sun. The home also has in-floor heating which takes the chill off on cooler days, and the fireplace does a great job of that too. They also incorporated a great ventilation system as well which keeps the home nice and cool on hotter days which this area is known for. All of the finishings and furnishings in the home were hand-picked, and all have low or no VOCs to create a beautiful, harmonious and healthy living environment.
