Foundation

Foundation. All tiny houses are recommended to be built on an engineered and MitchCraft approved custom tiny house trailer. The builders recommend trailers that are custom built specifically for the foundation of a tiny house on wheels. Tiny house trailer foundations are insulated with 5 to 6 inches of Polyiso R-Max rigid insulation, to provide a floor insulated that is rated to R-32 or R-38. 3/4 inch tongue and groove subfloor are then secured directly to the trailer, to help provide a perfectly flat and strong subfloor to build on.

Structure

Structure. At MitchCraft Tiny Homes, building custom tiny houses means that they also build according to specific requests. Some customers are wanting to travel with their tiny house often and need the lightest weight options that are available. Other people may be more interested in attaining the highest R-value possible. For that reason, MitchCraft builds their tiny house structures using either wood frame construction with 2 by 4 walls, 2 by 6 roof rafters (standard), steel stud frame construction using TMFrame framing system from Trailer Made Trailers or SIPs (Structurally Insulated Panels) construction.

Weather Resistance

All tiny houses are built to ensure that proper snow load is accounted for, and the tiny homes are designed and built to live in any climate, with proper air ventilation accounted for. All of the 1/2 inch Zip-wall structural sheathing and sheer panels are glued and fastened properly. 26 gauge metal roofing is standard on each tiny house, with many different color options to choose from. Metal roofing has a higher tolerance to wind, hail, and extreme weather with a longer lifespan than standard asphalt shingle roofs.

Window Quality

The window pricing is based on using Andersen 100 series premium double pane Fibrex windows. Fibrex is a stronger, higher quality window solution versus vinyl and is more affordable than wood or aluminum clad windows. Each tiny house customer can choose from a large variety of window sizes and opening styles, and all of the windows have tempered glass and window screens. You can't find a better window in its class.

Insulation Options

Comfort. MitchCraft offers 3 different options for the insulation of each tiny house. Closed-cell spray foam insulation. Spray foam has the highest R-value for any standard 2 by 4 framing construction, with an R-value of 21 in the walls, and an R-value of 35 in the roof. Spray foam is also more lightweight and air-tight, which provides more long-term cost savings due to the lower energy needs to heat and cool the tiny house.
