Are you curious about the tiny house movement? Or maybe you've heard of it, but aren't quite sure what it's all about? What's so amazing about tiny house buildings anyway, and why is there a whole movement growing around them?
Why People Join the Tiny House Movement
The small house movement is everywhere you look these days, especially if you spend time online or watching television. There are also several tiny house television programs available now, like Tiny House, Big Living, Tiny House Nation, Tiny House Builders, Tiny House Hunters, and more.
Why People Join the Tiny House Movement
Let's first try to better understand what the tiny house movement is. The tiny house movement is a social movement that started in earnest about ten years ago, and it's been picking up momentum ever since. Thousands of people are making the big decision to downsize their living space and move into a tiny home.

If you think that the usual home in North America is about 2,500 square feet, then it can be hard to fathom living in a tiny home, which is classified as 400 square feet or tinier. But, when you start seeing how creative tiny house designers and tiny house floor plans are becoming, you start to understand their appeal. The cleverest tiny house construction involves finding multifunctional uses for otherwise uni-functional features; for example, a shelf that becomes a wall hanging when it's folded up and not in use, or a rectangular box that serves as a seat as well as a storage space.

Or what about a garage door wall that opens up onto a tiny patio? These are just a few simple examples of what tiny house multifunctionality has to offer. People are jumping on the tiny house train for many different personal reasons, but many share at least a few of these reasons in common.
Why People Join the Tiny House Movement
One of the biggest reasons why people are downsizing the space that they live in is to live less expensively. When you buy or construct a tiny house, typically it does not cost as much as it would if you were buying a much larger house. Many can pay for their tiny home on the spot, or, at the very least, they just need to take out a small loan to make it happen; they do not have to take out a large mortgage.

This means, in the long run, they will have much more money to spend on more important things or, they will spend more time doing the things they love rather than working hard to pay off their house debt. This is just one example out of the top 10 reasons why people are joining the tiny house movement, and why you might want to consider joining it too. There are all sorts of reasons for wanting or needing a tiny house building, whether it be for off-grid living, as a vacation home, backyard office, full-time living or artist retreat, tiny houses are here to stay.
