To avoid clutter you want to have a place for every item, and put it in that place every single time. For example, you might keep your sporting goods in an outdoor cabinet, and be sure to never leave that gear anywhere else, that way, you always know where to find them without even thinking about it. A magnetic spice rack and knife rack are awesome space savers. In a larger-sized home, you might occasionally leave the dishes to do in the morning or pile up the laundry to fold later.

That doesn't work in a small house. If you don't put everything away as soon as you are done, it'll likely get in the way of whatever you do next. As soon as breakfast is over, for example, the kitchen table might become your office desk. Tidying up will help to keep you feeling calm.
