A wood cabin can be an affordable way to get a vacation home or home design that you need. And as affordable as a wood cabin can be, you can make it, even more, cost-effective with a little bit of pre-planning. There are things to do that will help to make your cabin building design keep within your budget.

To start you want to keep your wood cabin simple with a small footprint. A cabin building with a small, square footprint helps keep your log house design and construction costs down. And you want to stick to the stock floor plan, as customizing a wood cabin with extra corners and bump outs in the floor plan can add costs in quickly.

Another tip for keeping your wood cabin within budget is to keep your finishes consistent. You might skimp on window quality to spend a bit more on a fireplace, which can result in savings on heating bills down the road, and if you need to stay in budget, but don't compromise on the quality. When it comes to building a wood cabin you want to have a thorough cabin building plan, so you don't have to go back and spend more time and money on the part of the log cabin design that you had not considered, such as utilities or kitchen amenities.

It is important to understand that even a low-cost cabin building will need proper maintenance and you want to also stick to the recommended guidelines for protective wood cabin overhangs and clutter-free landscaping. Use cost-effective cabin building foundation solutions. Although a slab or a crawl space is the simplest foundation for a cabin building, you do have other options, especially if your wood cabin is 150 square feet or smaller.

You may want to consider using cinder blocks, patio stones, super spikes, or concrete piers with small outdoor structures. You want to stick to the log house package and purchase everything else locally if possible. Not only will your new cabin building meet your budget, but the wood cabin will meet your local specifications as well.
