Despite the initial cost of installing renewable energy source, you will save plenty on your monthly power bill. The amount you save will differ depending on the state in which you live in an off-grid house and the systems you use, but the average monthly savings from solar alone is close to $100 a month. Most solar power panels have a lifespan of at least 20 years so that the savings can add up to over $20,000 over time in most states. Another benefit of living in off-grid houses is that of flexible living.

If you enjoy wide open spaces like the one in the video, views of nature, and the peace of rural life you can benefit from renewable energy. Producing your power in an off-grid house will give you the freedom to live just about anywhere. Connecting your off grid house to the electrical grid can typically be a major hassle, forcing you to jump through all sorts of regulatory hoops and pay anywhere from $5 to $15 a foot of distance between the service pole and your rural home. However, the flexibility of using solar power provides a simpler alternative solution.

Solar power panels remove grid dependence entirely. If you don't have to stay connected to a power grid, you can then avoid the long and costly process of getting your land connected to the grid which offers a lot more freedom. Living in an off-grid house or green buildings can also have a positive environmental impact. With global warming being a major topic of global political discussion, switching to solar power and living in an off-grid house can lessen global emission rates.

The impact you can personally make by living in green buildings or an off-grid house are huge. Over the course of about 30 years, a single residential solar power array and renewable energy will offset 178 tons of carbon dioxide, and a personal wind turbine can offset about 200 tons of greenhouse gasses over the same amount of time. Using both solar power and green buildings can significantly reduce your carbon footprint. Some of the cons of living in an off-grid house can include logistical challenges.

This is because solar power requires a fairy financial investment to start. A 5 kW home with solar power costs anywhere from $25,000 to $35,000, and a 10 kW wind turbine can cost anywhere from $48,000 to $65,000. Even though you'll recoup those renewable energy expenses over time, the initial price of solar power can be a major obstacle for people wanting to live an off-grid life. Renewable energy also favors certain locations over that of others.

This is just one of the videos you will find on the Living Radical site. On the site, you will learn about things you can do for living in off-grid houses, solar power, green buildings and more. **
