Finding a home can be a pretty overwhelming experience, but it doesn't have to be. Even though home prices are at an all-time high in most cities, there is still a way to find a beautiful home to make your own. Instead of going after some of the larger houses out there, if you don't need the space, you can try out looking at smaller home options instead to make your home ownership dreams come true.

When you're looking for a home, of course, the most important thing is your budget. So it's crucial to figure out your budget first by looking into loans and what you qualify for when it comes to loans. You can check out our Homebuyers Guide articles for some more information on mortgages, pre-qualification and more to get you started on your path to buying a home. Sometimes, buying a smaller, more affordable home can be more beneficial for you in the short term, but also in the long term too.

Of course, the upfront price of the home will be lower, but when you own a smaller home, your utility bills will also usually be lower too. For inspiration, here is a great smaller home that could make a lovely full-time home or a cottage. The list price of this home in West Seattle was $495,000 but it actually sold for $570,000 back in 2016, and it was only on the market for 6 days believe it or not. The home is only 1,800 square feet, but it has plenty of space for 3 bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms.

It's also on a lot that's 7,860 square feet as well which would be plenty of space to build an accessory dwelling unit or a guest house in the back yard possibly. Or, it could just be a really lovely backyard with a garden and a patio. The home was built in a craftsman style which was popular back in the early 1900s along with Victorian style homes. This home has plenty of charm and character, so something like this would be perfect for those looking for a home that has a bit more of a history instead of a brand new build.

The exterior has been completely redone and looks incredible with light blue siding and white and red accents. That cute front porch on the home is the perfect place to sit out and enjoy watching life go by. The yard, as you can see is also in incredible shape with pristine landscaping.

Then, inside the home are all of the beautiful touches you would expect an older home to have including the wood trim and hardwood floors. The flooring is new, which is nice, but it really fits in with the older features of the home too. The entire home is filled with light thanks to the windows which look like the original windows and the door which has a glass insert. The ceiling is one area of the home which could stand to be redone since it's just ceiling tiles and not actual drywall.

Off of the living room is a bedroom which could be the perfect nursery as shown in the photos. The bathroom is also nearby and had been completely redone with a new low flow toilet, vanity and bathtub. The master bedroom is also close to the living room as well with original built-in storage and lots of windows with lovely views of the trees outside. The kitchen is also renovated with granite counters, stainless steel appliances and plenty of cabinets which appear to be some of the original cabinets that have been restored.

This is also an eat-in kitchen with enough space for a kitchen table. There's also the remodeled basement with laundry and a bedroom and bathroom, so it could be rented out or used as a suite. The fenced yard is wonderful for BBQs and having pets as well. What a sweet home that could be the inspiration for your homebuying ventures.
