You'll fall in love with the Hinze Cabin, believed to have been the homestead of the Fehrenkamp and Heinsohn families as they emigrated from Germany and Czechoslovakia. The log cabin was built in Frelsburg, Texas around 1845. Frelsburg is an unincorporated community in Colorado County, Texas that lies at the intersection of FM 109 and FM 1291.

The community was founded around 1837 by Captain William Frels and his brother Jack. It is home to one of the oldest surviving General Stores in Texas. The Heinsohn's Country Store has been continuously operating by the Heinsohn family since 1865.

Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Frelsburg, which has been designated as a Historic Texas Cemetery, is the resting place for many of the Fehrenkamp and Heinsohn family members. Original mid-1800s Hinze Family Cabin relocated from Frelsburg Texas to overlook Starhill Farms pond and pastures. The cabin was fully restored using reclaimed wood, custom fixtures, and beautiful antiques.

On your visit, when you're not unwinding on the front porch, you can feel free to enjoy some of the many activities available at the farm, like horseback riding, fishing, and hiking. This log cabin was moved to Starhill Farms in 2011 where it was fully renovated with custom fixtures, reclaimed wood, and stone improvements as well as one-of-a-kind antiques.

It is situated on the edge of our horse stable overlooking Yancey Pond and horse pastures. Features of the Hinze log cabin include a large living room with high ceilings, a separate bedroom with a queen-sized bed, a kitchenette with stove, subzero refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, pots, and pans, and dishes. Other features of the cabin include a full bathroom with a walk-in shower, wood-burning stone fireplace, central air and heat, all linens, hairdryer, Texas lavender bath products, wifi, large covered porches with rocking chairs, access to the fire pit with wood, charcoal grill, horseback riding rentals with advanced notice, and hiking trails.

This area of Austin County was the original part of Stephen F. Austin's land grant from the Mexican Government and was settled primarily by Germans and Czechs. Friedrich and Julia Sternenberg left Germany in 1849 and arrived in Houston, Texas in January 1850.

The couple had 7 sons and 2 daughters. From Houston, the Sternenbergs landed in Austin County and bought the present-day Starhill Farms property from Bryant Daughtrey, who had moved to Texas in 1822 and was given one league (approximately 4605 acres) from the Mexican Government as part of Stephen F. Austin's Second Colony.

His wife Anna Daughtrey, who died in 1847, is buried in Star Hill Cemetery as are many of the Sternenberg decedents. Hinze Cabin is the most iconic cabin on the property greeting you right off the dirt road as you drive in.
