Having a small cottage or vacation home is a long-term goal for many people. When it comes to actually looking for a vacation home, it can be tough especially when you don't know exactly what you want. It can help to look at all different cottage and home listings from all over to see what's out there and to even look at cottages that have already sold to get a better idea of what you like.

For example, this cottage is a great listing that has already been sold, but you can get some great ideas from it for your own future cottage or home. This cottage was built in 1910 but has had some substantial updates bringing it into the 21st century and up to code. It gives you a great idea of what can be possible with a home that may be sub-par, and that you can update old homes to be beautiful again.

This home sold in the spring of 2019 for $296,000 after only being on the market for a few months. It seems like the buyer bought the house and flipped it doing some updates and renovations and then put it back on the market with a new and higher price. The location in the forest in Rhododendron, Oregon makes it even more desirable for a cozy cabin in the woods. It still looks great on the outside finished in wood siding, and it looks like they also added some great bench seating on the deck to make it a more desirable place to sit out and enjoy the sun.

That's the other attractive thing about this property is that it gets a lot of sunlight so it could be a great property to add solar panels to and make into an off-grid property eventually. Inside, the home has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom with 810 square feet of space making it great for a small family or a couple. Even if you bought a cabin like this one and were to rent it out when you're not using it, you could pull in an income by renting it out for people to use on vacation or to live in full time.

Plus the home is on a quarter of an acre of land on a corner lot which is pretty nice too which is always a great type of property to buy since you'll never have neighbours on one side of you. The cottage here is fairly secluded which makes it nice for relaxing getaways, but it's also just a short walk into town. The walls inside the home are finished with cedar tongue and groove panelling, and there is a beautiful river rock fireplace to enjoy wood fires in.

The living room looks out over the deck and also fits a dining room table in it as well. It would be nice to arrange the furniture around the fireplace and have a nice entrance way area with a place to hang coats and put shoes. Through a doorway is the kitchen which has new kitchen cabinets that have been painted a nice fresh seafoam green and wooden butcher block countertops with a stainless steel sink. The windows in the kitchen extend the entire length of the countertops offering views of the forest surrounding the home.

There are also all brand new, full-size appliances installed in the cottage including an electric stove and oven with a fridge. Also, a stacked laundry unit is found in the hallway just off of the kitchen. The bathroom would be the perfect place to take a nice warm bath in the clawfoot tub that's been painted on the exterior.

The pedestal sink matches the clawfoot tub nicely too, and there is a flushing toilet in the bathroom as well. They also installed a brand new water heater for hot water whenever it's needed. The master bedroom features vaulted ceilings and French doors that open up to the large deck overlooking the woods. Even though this listing is no longer available, it would be nice to take some inspiration from it for what an older listing could be after some work was put into it.
