Ken restored this 19th-century cottage located in Provincetown, Massachusetts adding his touches of bright colours and antique features. Ken gathered some great art for this cottage with a total of 36 oil paintings throughout the home. When he ran out of space on the walls of this small cottage, he put the paintings on the backs of doors to add an element of surprise in certain rooms. If you're looking for original artwork, a great place to find what you're looking for is on eBay or Etsy where you can find lots of great artwork of all kinds. You can also go to antique shops or thrift stores in your area to find something unique, or discover artists in your area, or through Instagram. In this design, Ken didn't incorporate curtains or blinds in the dining room so the room could be flooded with light and so the views were uninhibited.

For the table, he thought outside of the box by incorporating an antique bridge table that can be used for dining or even for playing games. The dining room is also like a sunroom built onto the front of the home, and there are doors that seal it off from the rest of the home too if need be. You'll notice that he used white on the walls and the ceilings to lighten things up, but he painted the wood floors a deep blue that emulates the sea. You can paint your wood floors too, as it's a great way to add character without having to go through the arduous process of stripping and re-staining the wood floors. Leading into the kitchen, there is a great butcher block countertop that is another antique.

It's a true butcher block, just look how thick it is and notice the wear and tear on it that paints a picture of how it's been used over the years. The kitchen has over-the-door open shelving as well as some wall-mounted storage which is a great way to go instead of cabinets. It's a great money saver, and it's also a good way to display dishes and to keep sightlines clear. In the kitchen, there is also an antique stove which is a very cool piece that still functions. He also incorporated some old cutting boards that he added pops of colour to with some paint on the ends of them.

This is really easy to do, just use some painters tape to tape off the area you want to paint and then paint it with some food grade, non-toxic paint if you're going to use it for food. If it's just for decoration, then you can use whatever kind of paint you like. Ken Fulk has been designing homes for the last 20 years, and this cottage remodel shows off his talent for finding the best little details to make a home feel like a work of art.
