Located just a 45-minute drive north of McKinney located on 2.5 acres, you can sit back and enjoy the view of the trees while rocking on the front porch with your morning coffee. The cabin is located only 10 miles from Lake Bonham, it has a full kitchen equipped with everything you need for a country escape. During your vacation stay, you can enjoy the Bonham beauty, as Northeast Dallas is a small park filled with natural beauty.
At Bonham State Park, you’ll find a serene 65-acre lake, hilly trails, colorful history, and a quiet place to relax. You can bring the family and spend the day or the weekend, and explore the park in a variety of ways including camping, hiking and biking, fishing, paddling, swimming, geocaching, nature watching, and group gatherings to name a few. You can explore 8.75 miles of trails, open to hikers and bikers. To learn more about the park you can visit their Trails Information page. Learn about the park’s plant life on the easy 1.3-mile Lake Loop Trail, or explore the CCC’s legacy on the challenging 2.7-mile Bois d’Arc Trail. For fishing, you can drop a line in the 65-acre Bonham State Park Lake. Bring your gear or borrow ours (line and pole only). You’ll need to provide your bait. We have a fishing pier and boat ramp. The lake has a 5-mph speed limit. Paddling, just bring your watercraft or rent one of the parks. They rent paddle boats, kayaks, and canoes from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily, weather permitting.
Eisenhower Birthplace State Historical Park.
In the heart of Denison, the Eisenhower Birthplace State Historic Site showcases the home where the 34th United States President Dwight David (Ike) Eisenhower was born in 1890. Antique furnishings fill the modest frame house, illustrating the working-class life of the Eisenhowers. The visitors center celebrates Ike with memorabilia and exhibits featuring his many accomplishments as president and war hero. Eisenhower was always the pride of Denison. The community acquired the Birthplace home in 1946 and he was hailed as a hometown hero when he came back to visit that year. He returned on a presidential campaign trip in 1952, and Eisenhower Birthplace became a state park while he was president in 1958.
Sam Rayburn House State Historic Site.
Step into the warm and welcoming world of one of Texas’ best-known statesmen, Sam Rayburn. One of the most powerful and influential politicians in the 20th century, Rayburn served in the U.S. Congress for 48 years, holding the position of speaker for 17 years. His 1916 home, now the Sam Rayburn House State Historic Site, preserves his real stories with original furnishings, candid photographs, and personal belongings, remaining as they were when he lived here.
