Extraordinary Hobbit Eco Housing In Wales Only Cost $3,400 to Build
Discover how Simon Dale built an extraordinary hobbit eco-home in Wales for just $3,400, blending sustainable living with imaginative design.

The Rise of Hobbit Eco-Housing
Hobbit eco-housing has become increasingly popular especially in an age where people have known films like The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit all their life. Eco housing like this have become a mainstay in countries like Switzerland and Wales, the latter wherein common housing practices are done or built using locally-produced building materials as well as those that are natural and environment-friendly. The common imagery of a hobbit home depicts that of a tree-like hut that takes its necessary housing needs like water and light directly from nature, thus, it harmonized well with its surroundings rather than harm it.
Simon Dale's Unique Build Journey
Simon Dale of Wales was not an architect nor was he an interior design expert. With about £3,000 on hand, a few building tools, some naturally-sourced building materials, a bright idea and his father-in-law, he was able to build a low-energy unique small house plan as well as a low-cost living space for his family in the form of this hobbit home. The tiny house design very much like the scenes from movies that include the Middle-earth as well as happy elves. In all actuality, the hobbit home design in which he co-created exudes an aura of happy living. There is the rustic flare of the overall design in some parts of the house which integrates a few magic touches that give it a fairytale atmosphere.
Living in Harmony with Nature
The hobbit eco-house was built with maximum regard for the environment, and it gave the owners a unique opportunity to live close to nature. The unique small house plan housed their family while they worked in the woodland surrounding the house doing ecological woodland management and also setting up a forest garden, something they wouldn't have been able to do if they had a big mortgage to worry about. The main tools that they used to build the hobbit house were a chainsaw, a hammer and a one-inch chisel, and that's about it. Dale was not a builder or a carpenter the only experience he had was helping out on a similar house a couple of years before the build. This kind of eco-building is accessible to anyone who is willing to try.
Innovative Eco-Friendly Design
The eco tiny house design was completed in a little over four months in Wales. The hobbit home design uses an ingenious system that pipes cool air from underground, the water needed for everyday living is sourced by a nearby lake, and the electricity is provided by solar panels. The interior walls of this unique small house plan utilized lime plaster to make the living experience more comfortable and breathable than if cement were used. All in all, this earth-friendly hobbit home design is a great innovation from regular people with a great mind and compassion for nature, and an excellent way to get the housing you need without having to spend a lot of money. Some of the key points of the hobbit eco-design and construction are that the home was dug into a hillside for low visual impact and shelter, both stone and mud were used from digging for retaining walls and foundations, and frame oak thinnings (spare wood) were used from surrounding woodland. Straw bales were used in the floor, walls and roof for super-insulation and easy building.
