Whether you are looking for a full-time log cabin home, a vacation retreat, or a lakeside getaway log cabins are an ideal choice. A log cabin is a perfect place to soak up some rustic ambiance and connect with Mother Nature, with several advantages to owning a log home over more conventional construction. Longtime log cabin homeowners say log homes offer rich rewards over the stick and brick homes of their neighbors. The benefits start with the building materials.

Environmental Benefits

Trees are Renewable Resources. Trees are a renewable resource and log and timber home designs are a solid green choice. When a log home is made from solid logs, you are taking the carbon that is contained in those logs out of environmental circulation over the entire life of the log home. Also, some log and timber homes harvest the wood and logs from standing dead timber (done by pesky insects) or purchase logs from forests certified as sustainable. Some log home builders are constructing log and timber homes to green building standards as well.

Durability

Long Lasting. The log house and timber home industry have countless stories of these homes successfully weathering the worst weather Mother Nature can dish out, including the 2005 Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

Construction Advantages

Fast Framing. If you choose to use a precut and pre-drilled log house system or a handcrafted log home, the shell of your log home can be framed on-site faster than conventional stick framing, which will reduce the likelihood of weather-related damages or mold and mildew issues.

Comfort of Wood

The Warmth of Wood. Warm to the touch, wood has something known as thermal mass, a natural property in the logs that helps keep inside temperatures of homes comfortable in all seasons. This allows log walls to collect and store energy, then radiate it back into the log home.
