Overview of the Cabin

There is so much to love about this off-grid wood cabin rental located in Young, Arizona, United States. The cabin can accommodate up to 4 guests with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. During your vacation home, you'll have the entire cabin to yourself. The cabin is self-check-in with a lockbox. This place isn't suitable for infants (0–2 yrs) and the vacation host doesn't allow parties or smoking. The wood cabin is located in a secluded spot 2.5 miles outside of Young, Arizona.

Off-Grid Features and Accessibility

The cabin is off the grid, with a robust solar system, propane appliances, and a wood burning stove which offer more than you would expect for such a remote area. In heavy rains, the small portions of the 2.5 miles on Forest Road 54 to the cabin become very slick. So it is recommended that guests have trucks or SUVs when traveling. In dry conditions, the owners can drive their 4 door sedan with no problem. The road was recently graded and is in excellent condition.

Cabin Layout and Amenities

The wood cabin has 2 bedrooms and 2 baths, with 1,250 square feet of space. There is a large partially covered deck. The cabin sits on 10 total acres with 3 string barbed wire fences that surround the property. The cabin is off-grid and powered by solar only. There is a propane stove, and oven, furnace, hot water heater, and washer/dryer. There is a wood-burning stove, and during the summer months, a 5500 CFM evaporative window cooler (swamp cooler) is installed. It works well even during the monsoon, unlike coolers in the Phoenix area, due to the cooler temperatures and higher elevation. The cabin has no refrigerated air conditioning unit. There is a normal size refrigerator with a top freezer, but no dishwasher. There is no fenced yard for pets. During your vacation stay you may see javelina, elk, deer, and coyotes that can be around at any time, especially the javelina, so you'll want to be aware of your pets at all times.

Driving Considerations and Road Conditions

This wood cabin is located in a remote area where you will want to be mindful of your driving. You will want to note that the cabin sits at an elevation of 5,000 feet, but the road via FR512 from highway 260 starts at 7,000 feet. 18 miles of the 24-mile road from the north is unpaved surface, with a speed limit of 35 mph, but there are several tight curves on which you will be traveling slower. The road from Globe Miami to Young is even more scenic but longer and much slower. There are many elevation changes and hairpin curves. The road is narrow and the last 15 miles to Young is unpaved. The road from Young to the cabin, 2 miles, is rough dirt and gravel (forest route 54) with 1 crossing on Cherry Creek. It normally flows very slow or not at all and most cars can cross with little problem. However, I absolutely recommend a high profile vehicle, and 4 wheel drive, and chains if there is any chance of snow forecast.
