In the 1800s, settlements in this area grew with the development of the Cariboo Wagon Road and the discovery of gold. The Cariboo Wagon Road followed the original Hudson’s Bay Harrison Trail. Meadow Lake Road is maintained year-round. Transportation options for this area include truck, car, ATV, horses, walking, mountain bikes, and snowmobiling. There is a nearby lake, river, Meadow Lake which is 5 minutes down the road with a nice beach and full access to water (the lake is suitable for swimming). Orel's pond is on the property (by Jefferson house) and is a bird sanctuary, this however is not suitable for swimming.
You'll want to note that during your vacation stay you may encounter potentially dangerous animals such as wolves, coyotes, cougar, bears, badgers, and eagles so the owners ask that you please watch your pets and children when out in the bush exploring. Pet(s) also live on the property as there are working farm dogs that roam the property. Amenity limitations, you'll also want to note that there is no running water for the hunter log cabin and no full bathroom as it is the only outhouse. Also, there is no wifi or television. There is the potential for noise as Meadow Lake Road is close by and you will hear the odd vehicle drive by, it is a working ranch so during the day you will also get the odd tractor, ATV going by, or hear a chainsaw or other equipment working in the distance.
